Jowar Spring Onion Ponganalu/Paniyaram

Hey readers, Today I am sharing a healthy and tasty snack item made of Jowar Flour. This can be a healthier meal for breakfast as well as dinner time also. Jowar or sorghum is prized as a healthy alternative to refined flour or all-purpose flour, this fiber-rich millet is cultivated extensively in India. 

Jowar is loaded with protein, carbohydrate and dietary fiber which promotes growth and development. it is an ideal cereal in weight watcher’s diet and also regulates diabetes. Imbued with immense amounts of calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and sodium, these minerals fortifies the bones, strengthen the immunity and keeps diseases at bay.

  • 1 cup Jowar Flour
  • 1 cup Soaked Moong Dal
  • 3/4 cup Chopped Spring Onion
  • 1 tbsp White Sesame Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2-3 finely chopped green chilies
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil or as required
  • Salt as required
  • 3 cup Fresh Curd
  • 1 cup Water


  • To prepare Jowar Spring onion ponganalu, First soak the moong dal in water for about 2 hours. After 2 hours drain the dal, transfer it to a mixer jar. Grind it to a fine paste.
  • Take a mixing bowl, Add jowar flour, spring onions chopped, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, ground moong dal paste, finely chopped green chilies salt as required to it. Mix it properly.
  • Now add curd, and water into it to make thick batter like consistency or pourable consistency.
  • Now place a ponganalu pan on the stove, add little oil to each cup to avoid sticking the batter in to pan. Pour the batter into each cup of pan with the help of a spoon. Cover it with a lid.
  • After 3-4 minutes, open the lid and flip them to the other side and let them cook for about 2-3 minutes.
  • After 2-3 minutes, open the lid and switch off the flame. Take all ponganalu/paniyaram into a serving plate. It is ready to be served now, you can enjoy it with any chutney or ketchup of your choice.
